We Read it Like This presents....
You Read it Like What?! Competition

We Read it Like This was two years old last month and, to celebrate, we are holding a read-aloud recording competition with a prize of two books of your choice from those reviewed on this site (books out of print not included; see list at the bottom of this post).

1. Choose one of your favourite picture books
2. Practise reading it out loud (if you need to).
3. Record it either with video or sound only
4. Upload it onto a site like dropbox or soundcloud.
5. Share the link with us in a comment at the end of this post and...
6. Send an email to youreaditlikewhat@gmail.com telling us a bit about yourself or yourselves, a photo if you like, and why you chose that book in particular. Please include the link to the recording in the email too.
7. Recordings should be in English or in Spanish (if in Spanish please visit We Read it Like This' sister blog, Lo Leemos Así and enter the competition through that site).
8. The recording can either be:
  • of a parent or other carer reading to a child or several children or
  • of a teacher reading to a child or several children
  • of a child reading to another child or parent or in a classroom to their friends.
9. Excitement encouraged and interaction (ooh¡ aaaah!) more than welcome.
10. The deadline for receiving entries is May 31st, 2013. No entries received after this date shall be considered.
11.  Worldwide entries accepted. The only restrictions apply to language: English or Spanish (through Lo leemos así) only.
12. All ages welcome.
13. The winner will get a glamourous post featuring their prize recording plus 2 books to choose from the following books reviewed on We Read it Like This
14. Prize books chosen by winner will be sent to the address provided by them by email following the notification of the winner.
15. Good luck!
16. The decision regarding the winner will be necessarily subjective and final.

  1. Sounds like an AMAZING competition! Will need to see if I've got some recording equipment but if I can sort that out I'd love to take part :-)

  2. Do enter, Zoe! I look forward to seeing / hearing you! Any recording equipment will do... Even a mobile if you have nothing else at hand.

  3. This is awesome!! I will have to talk to Dad to see if he wants to do this. Thanks for sharing this great idea!!

  4. Great idea. Since first following your blog I have meant to record some audiobooks. It is difficult to choose just one book to record and upload though.

  5. Thank you so much for taking part in the You Read it Like What!? competition. We didn't know this book and we love it. Love your reading too, and the nice interactions with your kid (or kids?). Please drop me a line at youreaditlikewhat@gmail.com with a short text about yourselves and I'll put your entry up on the facebook page. (https://www.facebook.com/WeReaditLikeThis). Thank you again for introducing us to the fantastic Wombat Stew and to your super way of sharing it!

  6. Congratulations for you blog! I love it!! I teach at University of Extremadura and my students, who are teacher trainees, are currently reading out loud children's picture books for their oral assessment. They have learnt them by heart already! Hopefully, I'll try to convince some of them to take part in the competition! It's a great idea!

  7. Thank you Ana! What a fantastic idea to get them to read picture books out loud for their oral assessment! Looking forward to hearing/seeing some of them in action!

  8. Hello! Here is one of our entries - probably not one of our best, but it's all about taking part, right :-)? http://snd.sc/12Gfw25

  9. Thank you, Imogen! We love it! Very nice interactions in your recording, without ever losing the thread of the story. Lots of fun! I'll be posting it on our Facebook page this morning.

  10. The Shoolbread family reading Chikka Chikka Boom Boom! https://www.dropbox.com/s/ag12xw1v1mwo46e/Chikka%20Chikka%20Boom%20Boom%20-%20The%20Shoolbreads.m4a?v=0mcn

  11. The Shoolbread family reading The Big Red Bath! They have so much fun, it's contagious! https://www.dropbox.com/s/xurmi553xqj4etu/Big%20Red%20Bath%20-%20The%20Shoolbreads.m4a

  12. Four year old Izzy "reading" Goldilocks. We love the way she stops to show us the pictures! https://www.dropbox.com/s/bg1yz9n43i97mfa/My%20Movie%201.mp4

  13. Thank you all very much for taking part in this competition. I know it took a lot of organisation compared to other competitions (not only actually getting round to recording it but also managing to send it). The winning entry will be announced on Friday, 7th of June in a special post dedicated to all participants in the competition, especially to the winner. Thanks a again and hope you continue to enjoy for a long time to come!
